Ceremonial Cacao

Ceremonial Cacao – heart & womb medicine

Cacao. Mmmmmm cacao.

Cacao has become one of the most important parts of my spiritual toolkit and kitchen witchery practices.

I waited to learn how to respect, honor and make cacao from the Mayan in Guatemala, where it is revered. The Mayan women use it for all things in service to the feminine – supporting our cycles, period pain, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause, and the weariness that can from being the sensitive woman we were designed to be.

Ceremonial cacao is often purchased in block form. It’s essentially ground and packed cacao nibs, and depending on the source, blessed and prayed on while it’s being made. If you were to press this cacao, on one side you’d get raw cacao powder, and on the other side, cocoa butter!

Together they are a superpower, with loads of vitamins and minerals, high magnesium content (which is why it helps alleviate stress and aches and pains), and healthy fats.

I find it to be very uplifting and turn to it any time I’m feeling weary with the world, need a boost of goodness and positivity, or am doing ceremony in service to the feminine (personal or. ingroup ceremony). Pure heart and womb medicine!

I get my cacao from Maya Moon, the women I work with in Guatemala and take women to visit on my Guatemala Mystical & Wild Feminine Retreat. These women support single mothers and handicaped youth around Lake Atitlan, and make the cacao on their ancrestral land, alongside their ancient ancestral altar. A place that has been considered holy and scared for centuries. I can feel the magic in it!

For the Mayan people, cacao is utilized as a rebirthing medicine, helping to get rid of negativity, release emotional suffering, and experience universal love. Cacao is a medicine of the heart, powerful when used in meditation, and in prayer as an offering to spirit.
