Kitchari – Ayurveda’s most healing food

Kitchari – Ayurveda’s most healing food

Kitchari is considered to be one of the most healing foods as it’s very basic (not acidic), easy to digest, and still provides the nutrients your body needs to thrive.

In Ayurveda kitchari is eaten anytime we need extra support. Since it’s so easy to digest, your body can work on healing in other areas.

It’s great to make and eat when you’re feeling a cold coming on or have been ill, during seasonal transitions when we’re most susceptible to illness, during postpartum, or as a regular part of your lifestyle, giving your body opportunities to heal from the inside out.

I love to make a double batch and share with friends or keep some in the freezer (Ayurveda loves fresh, but I also know I’d rather turn to this on nights I need an easy dinner then many other things, so I’m good with it).

Keep plain without any additional addons for a super traditional method. Or add in any veggies and toppings you intuitively crave to make it all the yummier! One of my favorites is Everything but the Bagel Seasoning.

If I’m doing a longer kitchari cleanse, I especially like to switch it up. Add an egg in the morning. Some greens for lunch. And a dash of coconut milk at dinnertime. Make it your own!

You could try eating it for a few days when the seasons shift, once a week for regular maintenance, or whenever you fancy!

I highly reommend Banyan Botanical’s Kitchari Spice Mix for making it super easy to whip up. You can also buy ghee, basmati rice, and yellow mung bean dal from them if you want to get all the ingredients in one fell swoop!
